That is unless Paramount met his demands of a $2 million salary and the promise that he’d be able to direct the fifth film in the series. Nimoy, along with producer/screenwriter Harve Bennett, devised the story.Īlthough the second and third films of the series were popular, to say the least, William Shatner decided he was going to hold out on doing the fourth film. The movie, which was directed by Leonard Nimoy (his second directing duty in the series), injected some well-timed humor while tackling the issue of the near-extinct humpback whale. It’s lucky that one of the best is now a Star Trek free option for streaming. Of the six Original Series feature films, The Voyage Home is considered one of the best. The Bounty then crashes into the waters of San Francisco Bay, where the whales are finally able to swim to freedom, thusly being able to communicate with the giant probe. The Bounty has been recharged and back to their time goes the crew.Īs they slingshot back, approaching Earth, they lose power because of the giant probe. The three first rescue the injured Chekov from the hospital, then they save the whales. Taylor approaches Kirk and Spock because the whales have been released early and are now being hunted by whalers. As they attempt to flee, Uhura is beamed out but Chekov is badly injured.ĭr. The pair are able to collect the needed power but are also discovered on board the ship. At the same time, Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) and Chekov (Walter Koenig) are tasked with finding nuclear power, which they do on the aircraft carrier Enterprise. Meanwhile, Scotty (James Doohan), Bones (DeForest Kelly), and Sulu (George Takei) trade the formula for transparent aluminum to obtain materials needed to build the large tank. Gillian Taylor (Catherine Hicks) and try their best to convince her of their mission, but she refuses to cooperate. Kirk and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) handle the first task. Now, the crew must split up to complete all the tasks necessary to capture the whales, build a tank to hold them, and find a nuclear reactor to generate power to get them home. There, they discover their time travel maneuver has drained the ship of its power. The next steps in this Star Trek free watch bring the crew to 1986 San Francisco. Kirk and crew decide to use the Bounty to travel back in time where they can obtain a pair of humpback whales and bring them to the current Earth to save it. The giant probe has been trying to communicate with the now-extinct humpback whale and will continue to wreak its havoc until they get a response. But as they reach Earth in the Bounty, their newly captured and named Klingon Bird of Prey ship, they learn that the planet is being destroyed by a destructive signal from a giant probe. Kirk (William Shatner) and crew defied orders to rescue Spock from the Genesis Planet ( The Search for Spock), the fourth movie finds the entire crew returning to Earth to face their court-martial. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, the Star Trek free movie now on YouTube, concludes the story arc that started in The Wrath of Kahn. By the time Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home blasted into theaters, Star Trek was on a roll and once again quite popular. Along came Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn, followed by Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Though the box office returns didn’t warrant a sequel, Paramount still felt there was enough there to move forward anyway. It’s widely agreed, even by Trekkie’s standards, Star Trek: The Motion Picture was a complete misstep. Its newfound cult following, aka Trekkies, showed enough interest that by the mid-to-late ‘70s, Paramount felt it was time to once again “boldly go where no man has gone before.” Star Trek was back, but this time it was being given the feature film treatment. Somehow, the original series began to find its audience during reruns.

To show you the power of words, here’s a “story” from the early years of my consulting practice days. The same words that once formed a bridge between great products and services to customers by way of storytelling, have now been degraded to spinning yarn to maximize revenues while the going’s still good. The artist photographer Jacques Pugin made several series of images with the light drawing technique in 1979. Dean Chamberlain was the first artist to dedicate his entire body of work to the light painting art form. In 1977 Dean Chamberlain extended the technique using handheld lights to selectively illuminate and/or color parts of the subject or scene with his image Polyethylene Bags On Chaise Longue at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Light paintings up to 1976 are classified as light drawings. ĭuring the 1970s and '80s Eric Staller used this technology for numerous photo projects that were called "Light Drawings". He produced a series Schwingungsfigur (oscillating figures) of complex linear meshes, often with moiré effects, using a point-source light on a pendulum. Peter Keetman (1916–2005), who studied photography in Munich from 1935 to 1937, was the 1949 co-founder of FotoForm (together with Otto Steinert, Toni Schneiders et al.), a group with great impact on the new photography in the 50s and 60s in Germany and abroad. This series of photos became known as Picasso's "light drawings." Of these photos, the most celebrated and famous is known as Picasso draws a Centaur. Immediately Picasso started making images in the air with a small flashlight in a dark room. In 1949 Pablo Picasso was visited by Gjon Mili, a photographer and lighting innovator, who introduced Picasso to his photographs of ice skaters with lights attached to their skates. I wanted then, and still do, to express the ‘thing’ as part of total flow." In making innovative photographs of dancers, including Martha Graham and Erick Hawkins she would have them move while holding lights. Her 1941 photomontage Pure Energy and Neurotic Man incorporates light drawing and realises her stated aim "that if I should ever seriously photograph, it would be.the flux of things. Photographer Barbara Morgan began making light paintings in 1935–1941. Pure Energy and Neurotic Man, a light painting by Barbara Morgan (1940) Historian of photography Ellen Carey (*1952) describes her discovery of the artist's signature in this image while examining it in 2009. He made a self-portrait with a time exposure and while the shutter was open, with a penlight he inscribed his name in cursive script in the space between him and the camera, overwriting the letters with more cryptic marks. Man Ray, in his 1935 series "Space Writing," was the first known art photographer to use the technique. The technique was used in Frank Gilbreth's work with his wife Lillian Moller Gilbreth in 1914 when the pair used small lights and the open shutter of a camera to track the motion of manufacturing and clerical workers. Light painting dates back to 1889 when Étienne-Jules Marey and Georges Demeny traced human motion in the first known light painting Pathological Walk From in Front. Light painting also refers to a technique of image creation using light directly, such as with LEDs on a projective surface using the approach that a painter approaches a canvas. Practiced since the 1880s, the technique is used for both scientific and artistic purposes, as well as in commercial photography. Light painting, painting with light, light drawing, or light art performance photography are terms that describe photographic techniques of moving a light source while taking a long-exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or space, or to shine light at the camera to 'draw', or by moving the camera itself during exposure of light sources. Light painting inside an abandoned limestone quarry in France Each has a field of vision that can be displayed onscreen as a glowing cone on the ground by pressing the Alt key. These enemies come in various types, ranging from low-level lancers to powerful knights on horseback and officers skilled at organizing troops. No matter what sort of mission you're engaged in, all of Robin Hood's maps are puzzles that require you to avoid groups of enemy soldiers. During the actual engagement you can earn additional shields toward completing your goal by accomplishing important tasks like lowering the drawbridge. This lends greater importance to the major objectives in the game and also gives you a reason to continue with the less-important robberies of merchant and tax collector convoys. Shields are acquired prior to battle by giving money to allies, sending groups of Merry Men out on spying patrols, or looting a convoy. Castle sieges are more involved than standard missions in that you have to earn 12 shields before bringing the fortress down. Later on in Robin Hood, you'll have to lay siege to enemy castles. Hit targets above forest paths to trigger ambush traps. And as you might expect from a game about medieval England, you'll get additional information from beggars who will exchange valuable hints for alms. In them, you're given explicit goals such as finding out where Maid Marian is or contacting Prince John and then navigating through a horde of the sheriff's men to get there. The latter missions are more traditional. The former involves set-piece engagements with preset traps you trigger by shooting arrows at targets in the trees, pits that you can lure enemies into, and Merry Men hidden under leaves. There are many types of missions as well, although they fall into two general categories-cash-generating ambushes of convoys on the forest roads and major town expeditions that advance the plot. Multiple mission choices are typically available, so you can pick and choose based on whatever strikes your fancy. Then you decide on a mission, gather the Merry Men you want to take along-you get to select renowned figures like Will Scarlet, Little John, and Friar Tuck, along with fictional nobodies who fill out the ranks-and get started. The map itself details the forest and the five surrounding districts of Lincoln, Nottingham, Derby, York, and Leicester. Missions are accessed through a map, which you can consult in Sherwood Forest. You can train in combat and archery by visiting an area with a drill instructor and tree-mounted targets, gather apples (helpful when you need to distract guards) by walking under a nearby tree, hunt for food by visiting the spit, or dig into the feasting table to recover health. Every action available in Sherwood Forest is accessed this way. If you want to make arrows, or leather for coin purses, you send somebody to the designated hut to begin work. Everything must be manually created by assigning Merry Men to workshops set aside for the production of specific items. It functions in a similar way to bases in traditional real-time strategy games, with structures operating as small factories.īut resource production in Robin Hood isn't simply a matter of erecting a building and watching numbers increase. In the woods, you have a Swiss Family Robinson-style home in the trees that serves as your headquarters for the remainder of the lengthy campaign. After two opening missions on your own that get you acquainted with the game engine and introduce the first of many allies who become the famed Merry Men, the scene shifts to Sherwood Forest. The leader of these groups is Robin of Locksley, who joins up with a group of rebels after returning from the Crusades to find his properties seized by the Sheriff of Nottingham. Robin Hood is a third-person, isometric-perspective game, and, like Commandos, the game is all about guiding a team of units through missions by avoiding the watchful eyes of sentries. Scenic Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood's base of operations. In fact, the only significant arguments you could raise against the game would be that it has no multiplayer play and that its production values are a bit out of date. An entertaining and well-written storyline, an impressive mission design that includes diverse objectives, and a lively combat system that involves more than simple mouse-clicking have been brought together in such a way that the complete game works on nearly every level. Fortunately, German developer Spellbound Studios has just released Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood, a clever new take on the old English tale that blends elements of the Kevin Costner and Errol Flynn movies with real-time gameplay in the style of Pyro Studios' tactical strategy game Commandos. Even though he's one of the most colorful figures of Western European legend, Robin Hood hasn't had much luck making his way to the PC. Recovering them to print can be time-consuming, but I find that if you build it into your workflow then setting aside images for print is easy. We all have thousands of images trapped in computer storage or the Cloud. Jonathan Glynn-Smith on the importance of printing Now, whenever I shoot a project, I aim to share at least part of it with the client in print. Most of all, a print brings images to life, adding texture and emotion that a screen can never capture. A print is something you can share – whether passing it across a table or putting it up on a wall. A print is something you can examine closely, revealing details that you missed as you composed the image. I became so used to seeing my images on screen that I had forgotten the joy of holding a print in my hand. All the subtle details of light and shade and color work together to bring the captured moment to life. The image has a sense of being in the paper not on it. There is so much that a finished print can show that simply doesn’t come across on a screen. I just stopped printing regularly.Įver since I discovered L.Type, printing has become integral to my work again. Like many photographers, I used to have printed portfolios to show to clients, and then with the advent of digital moved to the web and my iPad to show off my work. I’ve been a photographer and director for over twenty years. However, Buster's pleas and the spirit of Christmas prevented her from killing him. Jazz later was Christmas shopping with Buster Witwicky when he was attacked by Circuit Breaker. When Starscream and Frenzy attacked the unveiling of Blackrock's new laser cannon, Jazz and Wheeljack kept up their end of the deal by battling them but ended up being attacked by Circuit Breaker and having to be saved by Blackrock's intervention. Blackrock and offering him protection from Decepticon attack in return for fuel. Man of Iron!Īfter spending a while deactivated along with most of the other Autobots after Shockwave took over the Ark, Jazz decided to solve the Autobots' fuel problem by approaching G.B. At the climax of a battle with the Decepticons over the buried ship, Jazz fired his weaponry down into it, and it was pulverized. After questioning the boy, it became apparent that the rescue ship must be destroyed. Jazz befriended (and kidnapped) a young boy, Sammy Harker, whose dad worked at the castle where the Autobot rescue ship had been partially unearthed. Jazz, along with Trailbreaker, Mirage, and Bluestreak, were dispatched to England under Optimus Prime's supervision. The Man of Iron, one of its crew, had awakened a number of times in England's history and had become a local legend. It was discovered that after the Autobots crash-landed on Earth, a rescue ship was sent after them which was buried somewhere in England. Jazz shot a stream of fire to prevent Sparkplug's escape, causing the human to suffer a heart attack. Power Play! Later, when Sparkplug was rescued and it was learned that the auto repairman had devised a way for the Decepticons to convert Earth fuel into a usable resource, the Autobots were enraged. Jazz's first foray into action came when the Decepticons attacked him and his fellow Autobots at Witwicky Auto Repairs, resulting in the kidnapping of Sparkplug Witwicky. Jazz showed an affinity with human pop culture almost immediately, responding to Prowl's non sequitur assertion that his "logic center dictates the most advantageous course of action in any situation" with "Well, that is neat-o, Prowl." The Transformers Jazz was one of the Autobots who crashed on Earth four million years ago, waking up in 1984.
